Synapse Biomedical, a Case Western and University Hospitals spinout, is a Cleveland-area company that developed the NeuRx DPS, a system that provides neurostimulation to the diaphragm to assist patients with breathing.  The product is already approved for use in spinal cord injury patients.  With the funds raised, the company will continue to expand sales in that market and develop additional clinical indications.  Synapse has been funded by Palo Alto Investors, Vivo Ventures, and angel investors.
